Dear Leader,

the holiday season is of course there to allow you to rest and to spend time with family. Of course you must rest. You need to rest because you’ve been working hard, building your career or your business and managing 360 degrees of work politics…

So now you’re probably wondering why we seem to be speaking in contradictions. We aren't.

It’s not rest or build your career during the holidays, it’s a yes AND situation. Yes, rest. Yes, spend time with family. Yes, carve out time for that delightful book you've had on the shelf for weeks, if not months. AND yes, reflect on and map out your 2026 growth strategy.

Two reasons:

  1. Once you’ve rested, your mind will invariably go there. Meet it where it is because your subconscious has - quietly - been working on things (all along). It now finally has a chance to surface them to you in a calm, reflective environment (assuming you’ve not jammed your holidays full of activity with zero time for reflection). The holidays are a great opportunity for creative reflection because the best ideas come when we’re not focusing on them (refer back to our hard working subconscious and giving it it’s chance in the sun, you know like your opportunity to finally share the ideas you’ve - quietly - been working on at work); and

  2. Every great leader and CEO we’ve ever worked with carves out a portion of their holiday period to work on both their personal and business growth strategy. This is the basis upon which everything unfolds for the rest of the year (barring the strategic review and reorientation activities focused on ensuring that set goals are realised). This is because they recognise that execution mode doesn’t align well with deep thinking mode. This is no different for you.
